FOOD SERVICE SUBSTITUTE APPLICANTS

Applicants must: 1. Have High School Diploma
2. Pass FBI & DHS background check  ($32.00 cash/check or money order to Western Line School District)
3. Be at least 21 years of age
4. Attend a training seminar

If you are called as a substitute for Western Line School District, you must abide by the following: 

  • Subs are encouraged to wear solid black scrubs.  If scrubs are not available, subs must wear solid color            t-shirts (black preferred) and jeans that are not tight. Scrubs are not provided by district for subs 
  • Subbing in food service requires bending and lifting up to 50 lbs.  
  • Subs must be able to bend easily without exposing themselves (no low hanging pants or low cut shirts) 
  • No jewelry
  • No false nails 
  • No nail polish
  • No makeup
  • No false eyelashes 
  • Hair nets must be worn at all times; this includes beards.  (District will supply hair nets) 
  • Must wear slip resistant shoes 

Performance Responsibilities

  1. Follow at all times instructions given buy the manager and give all cooperation to her and to others in the department.
  2. Serve in any capacity in an emergency.  If needed for a school activity, be willing to serve where needed.
  3. Practice high standards of grooming and work habits.  Must wear hairnet at all times.
  4. Take good care of equipment. 
  5. Avoid waste at all times.
  6. Observe safety rules.
  7. Develop and maintain an attitude of helpfulness toward children and adults.
  8. Maintain high standards of personal hygiene and sanitation.
  9. Avoid unnecessary talking at work, especially during serving time.  Use a pleasant tone of voice when speaking to co-workers, students, and adults.
  10. Be loyal to the manager, the principal, and to your job.  Help boost the morale of your school.
  11. Keep work area clean.
  12. Refrain from gossip or discussion of personal affairs while working.  Especially refrain from gossip in the presence of students.
  13. Check any food from the cooker, freezer, or storeroom through the manager or assigned person so that the person can take it off the inventory.  
  14. Report promptly for work based on the daily work schedule.
  15. Employees are to park in the area assigned by the principal.  If you do not drive a car to work, you must be dropped off and picked up in the assigned area.
  16. Keep hands off face, hair, and clothes while handling food or serving food from the line.
  17. Each worker will know what job or jobs she is to perform the next school day before she leaves work. Do not to wait until you get off work and get instructions.
  18. Check recipe and get ingredients as near ready for the next day as possible.  Get utensils ready as needed for the next day also.
  19. Arrange appointments with doctor, dentist, etc. after work hours.
  20. An employee should not speak negatively about the cafeteria food on the serving line.  If you are not fond of the food yourself, don’t let a child know you don’t like it.  (Maybe you are like him, you haven’t tried it.)
  21. Do not play favorites to any child while serving the tray.  This makes you dishonest and unfair and they know it.
  22. If any discrepancies occur during the collecting procedure, each individual cashier will be held fully responsible for correcting errors on her line and personally replacing any fund not accounted for.

 

Terms of Employment:          

182 days a year.  Salary to be established by the Board.

 

Evaluation:                            

Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel, based on the Library Aide Evaluation form
