Qualifications:           Degree in Social Work preferred / High School Degree Required

Reports to:                 Principal / Federal Programs Director

Job Goal:                   To use home-school relations to improve the school and its programs; to maintain communication between parents, administration, teachers and the community.

 

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Gather information from home visits that will be useful in determining how best to meet the needs of the student and his/her parents relative to improving attendance and making the school experience more meaningful.
  2. Present a positive image of the school to parents, and convey to them the school’s genuine concern with the education, growth, and development of each child.
  3. Assist in developing ways of involving parents in the affairs of the school and the community.
  4. Serve as a channel of communication for relaying the concerns, thoughts, and attitudes of parents and the general public to the school.
  5. Work closely with health, welfare, and police agencies to coordinate services.
  6. Keep complete, up-to-date, and accurate records as required by law, policy, and administrative regulation.
  7. Attend and participate in parent meetings
  8. Prepare and deliver useful parenting materials
  9. Assist the coordinator in planning Advisory Council meetings and work closely with the Advisory Council.
  10. Produce and disseminate a newsletter to parents
  11. Establish and maintain instructional materials, parenting materials, equipment and supplies, and make sure supplies and materials are readily available to parents
  12. Develop and maintain a system of check-out for parents using Parent Center Materials
  13. Maintain necessary documentation for evaluation purposes
  14. Serve as liaison with, such outside agencies as the Welfare Department, Child Placement bureau, Juvenile Court, and the like as appropriate
  15. Serve as liaison between home and school when considerable follow-up is necessary, as in Welfare cased, foster home children

Terms of Employment:                     187 Days a year. Salary to be established by the Board.

Evaluation:                  Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
